Girl set ablaze by inlaws, battling for life in hospital!

Shopian: A 24 year old girl was set ablaze allegedly by her in laws in Shopian district. The girl is battling for her life in the hospital.

Reports said that a lady Shokey Jan, 24 wife of Aijaz Ahmad Sheikh, resident of Nadigaam Shopian was set ablaze after beating up by her husbands family members this evening.

"The lady was kept in house after the incident but after the neighbours heard the noise, they entered the house and after informing police and her brother, shifted the lady to Srinagar hospital immediately" reports said.

"Ajaz along with his brother Mohammad Shaban Sheikh and his son Shabir first beat Shokey and then sprayed Kerosine on her and set her ablaze", said Gh. Mohiudin, brother of Shokey.

"One of neighbours of Shokey informed us on telephone about all this episode. They have blazed her at 2 pm and then they have locked her in a room till evening", said Farooq Ahmad, a relative of Shokey.

As the news of the incident spread, Police and local MLA of Shopian Adv. Mohmad Yousuf Bhat reached District Hospital Shopian to take stock of the situation.

Later the Police registered a case in this regard. However, Police says that nothing can be said before completing investigation.

"We have registered a case and a Police party has been sent along with the girl to SMHS Hospital Srinagar.

"It will be before time to say that whether she was set ablaze or ablazed herself", In-Charge Police Officer, Feroz Ahmad said.

"The girl is critically injured and as she improves, we shall get her report" he said.
